Water Baptism

Being baptized is an important step of obedience in your walk with Jesus Christ, and we're excited to help you take that step.

About Baptism

Water baptism shows others that we have personally trusted Jesus for our salvation. Jesus was baptized when He was on the earth, and we do this to follow His example. When Christians are baptized, they are submerged under water to identify with the death and burial of Jesus and raised out of the water to identify with His resurrection. We believe that water baptism is a public declaration of three important things: you are a follower of Jesus Christ, you are beginning a changed life in Christ, and you are part of a new family. Baptisms are held the 3rd week of every month.

Baptism Facts

1. WHY BE WATER BAPTIZED?

Baptism is an important step in your spiritual journey. After you declare with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you are saved. Water baptism is about obeying Jesus, following his example, and going public with your personal decision of faith to follow him.(Romans 10:9, Matthew 3:13-17; 28:18-20)

2. WHAT IS THE SIGNIFICANCE OF BAPTISM?

Water baptism is an outward expression of the internal transformation that takes place when you accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior. It is symbolic of dying to your old self and being raised new in Christ. (Acts 2:41, Romans 6:4-11, Galatians 3:26-27)

3. I HAVE ALREADY BEEN BAPTIZED. SHOULD I BE REBAPTIZED?

Your water baptism should have signified you are a follower of Jesus by believing he is the son of God and accepting that his sacrifice on the cross was payment for your sins. If your baptism did not reflect this understanding and conscious decision to receive Christ, then you should be water baptized. (Romans 10:9)

4. CAN MY CHILD BE BAPTIZED?

We will water baptize any person who understands what water baptism symbolizes and has made the decision to make Jesus Christ their Lord and Savior. In our experience, most children under the age of 7 have difficulty comprehending this concept; however, we leave it to parents to determine their child’s understanding. We encourage parents to partner with Trinity Fellowship's generational ministry pastors to help guide you and your children through these decisions of faith.

5. CAN MY INFANT BE BAPTIZED?

In the Bible we see that Jesus' parents dedicated him to the Lord as an infant, and as an adult, he was baptized as an example for us. Water baptism is an expression of a decision to follow Christ. As infants & young children can clearly not make this personal decision, we do not offer water baptism to them. (Luke 2:22-23, Matthew 3:16-17)

At Trinity Fellowship, we offer opportunities for parents to dedicate their children to the Lord. To learn more about Child Dedication, visit tfc.org/events.
